Heya Ryan here with a new spoiler from Opus 26. Byron is a 3p 7k fire forward from cat 16 who offers support to dominants and their eikons. Byron’s first effect allows you to recur a card name Joshua or Clive back from the break zone. This helps offset the name clash that priming decks normally run into. Getting back Clive/Joshuas can give you flexibility on which dominant to play, as well as in Clive’s case, grab a copy of the S. It also offers you recursion in different combinations that typically do not have recursion such as ice/fire. Byron’s secondary action ability can only play 3 drops or less, but notably, this effect is not limited to your own turn so you can do some tricky things like block, play Clive/Joshua, and then even using a cheeky S from the new Clive. Is Byron making it into your deck?

Howdy folks, Jeff Curran here to weigh in on Byron’s applications in limited. As a C, Byron will be a huge part of sealed and draft. While his floor is poor, once you get access to either Clive or Joshua, then you can get a nice rebate on Byron’s admittedly not impressive body. Of course, if you also have their primes, then you absolutely want to be able to get them back time and time again, but what’s really interesting to me is that both Clive and Joshua have abilities that are made much stronger at Summon speed. Joshua offers you a source of direct damage at will, and Clive offers you Break Zone removal which can interrupt your opponent trying to access their BZ. Even if you can’t find a good opportunity to make use of that, at the very least you can block a big attacker with Byron then cheat out another Forward. At the end of the day, Ifrit (XVI) is so insane in limited that any card that helps you get it out is automatically goated.
That’s all we have for you today. We’re glad to have you here, we look forward to seeing how you all choose to use Byron in the future, and we look forward to seeing you here again next time at The Crystarium!
