If you’ve spent much time around me, you know there’s one Final Fantasy character that means more to me than the rest. One who has directly impacted my life and changed the way I view others. To be able to look beyond “hey, this person has hurt me” and ask “was it on purpose or did they have good intentions?” That person is, uh… the primary antagonist… of the game he’s in… but be not confused, Jecht may be the antagonist, but he is no villain. Everything he does he does in the hopes of bringing about a better tomorrow, and every day he strives to be a better person. In Final Fantasy, Jecht has always struggled to find a place in the meta. Water Bounce/Exile Jecht, Fire EX Damage & Search a light/dark Jecht, and Monofire Fight Jecht have all seen fringe play, Braska’s Final Aeon was somewhat dominant as a 1of for a few months, and Wind Sin has been a supporting card in certain Wind decks, but we’ve never had a Jecht really carve out its own space. And that’s not changing today, baby!

Warp 2 is a long time to wait, and a long time to telegraph this move, but if you CAN wait then Jecht is a serious package. 2 CP for 8K burn + 9K body is a great rate. And with so, so many 5ks running around the format, his cleave is a powerful option. Look at how many Knights it clears! Lasswell, Charlotte, Beatrix, Agrias, the other Agrias, Delita, Physalis, Lilyth, Gawain. If Knights stays in the meta, you could do worse than big boy here. Granted he’s soft against monster decks. He also boasts absolutely zero synergy, unless you count Warp synergy. Category X and Job Guardian are both groups that exist primarily in other elements, and it’s going to be quite difficult to bring them to Jecht. As far as Warp synergy goes, one big issue (of several) that heavy Warp strategies face is a lack of removal. Most Warp effects are some form of card draw, and the rest is soft removal, either bounce or dull/freeze. Jecht may be hard to fit in to Warp, but he offers a strong effect where Prishe is really the only previously viable source.

It’s been my singular privilege to be the source of this Jecht reveal, to be a part of the legacy of a character that has inspired me to be a better person every day than I was the day before. A character that has helped me define the line of what is and isn’t a toxic relationship. A character with deep, glaring flaws that you still can’t help but love. I’m glad he’s been able to be an enduring part of this great game, and this franchise as a whole, and I’m glad to be able to be a part of your day! Thanks for spending your time here with me, listening to me gush about this himbo dadfailure, and I hope to see you again, next time, on the Crystarium!
